Chapter 6அதிகாரம் 6 மாயை Illusion
What the mind mistakes, and what its mistakes protect.

What they took hold of as a rope tears into the hand that grips it: no rope, but a coiled snake.
54. Mistaking the guide

mudivedutha pinnar muzhuschaandrum thedumkadivaalam poottiya kan
Once the decision has been made, the bridled eye goes looking for all the evidence.
A bridle lets a rider turn a horse’s head. The search looks thorough, but the decision already holds the reins.
56. Feeling safe

kandadhu poyyenak kandaalum kanmunnarkandadhu meyyenum kan
Even when what was seen has been seen to be false, the eye still calls what is before it true.
60. Mistaking our own reactions
காற்றை அறியும் கொடிமுனை தன்னசைவைக்காற்றென நம்பும் பிழை
kaatrai ariyum kodimunai thannasaivaikkaatrena nambum pizhai
The flag-tip knows the wind; the error is believing its own sway to be the wind.
