570. Measuring away the pleasure

கணக்கில் உழல்வான் கருதிய தின்பம்கணக்கி லிழந்தான் கணம்

kanakkil uzhalvaan karudhiya thinpamkanakki lizhandaan kanam

Counting and recounting, he had pleasure in mind; in the counting he lost the moment.

571. Taking words out

தீட்டிய கோட்டால் எழுத்தன்று நீக்கியகோட்டால் நிறையும் கருத்து

theettiya kottaal ezhuthandru neekkiyakottaal niraiyum karuthu

It is not the strokes drawn that make the writing; it is the strokes taken away that fill the meaning.

572. Seeing the whole

கோடொன்று போதுமென் றாள்வடி வங்கண்டாள்கோடுநூ றிட்டவள் கோடு

kodondru podhumen raalvadi vangandaalkodunoo rittaval kodu

The woman who says one line is enough sees the form; the woman who has drawn a hundred lines sees a line.

Two different women. Drawing more does not mean seeing more: ‘form’ is the whole shape, ‘a line’ one stroke of it.
